Subject: [Commandants] Fw: Marine Inducted
Ranger Hall of Fame
Commandants,
Please pass this information along to your Detachments. All Marines
that can make the induction for this outstanding Marine should try to do so.
Second Marine to be Inducted into Army
Ranger Hall of Fame
Among US Army combat units, the Rangers are acknowledged as the best
of the best. And their training is the toughest. To make it through Ranger
School is a great accomplishment in and of itself. The very best Rangers in
combat have a chance to be selected for the Army Ranger Hall of Fame, which is
located at Fort Benning.
Although anyone who has successfully completed Ranger training is
eligible, there is only one Marine who was not serving in the Army at the time
of the action that made him selected for the Army Ranger Hall of Fame. That
Marine is the late Col. John Ripley. Now, a second Marine has been selected and
will be inducted at a formal ceremony in Columbus on July 27th. This Marine is
the late Lt.Col. Stanley Ski Wawrzyniak, who had
two Navy Crosses, one Silver Star, and two Bronze Stars with V. At the age of 34, Ski placed first in
his Jump School Class and first in his Ranger School Class.
I am encouraging all Department of Georgia
Detachments to inform their members and to encourage them to attend. The
attire for the ceremony is the MCL Casual uniform (red blazer, white shirt,
black tie, black trousers, shoes and socks, or a coat and tie if in civilian
attire. Our Junior Vice Commandant, Chad Long, is going to use this as an
opportunity to generate interest in the Columbus area in order to start a
Detachment there.
These are the details:

treat BBQ at Freedom Hall, the passenger terminal at Lawson Army
Airfield.
Directions: To get to Freedom Hall from I-185, follow I-185 South onto
Fort Benning. Stay on the expressway
on Fort Benning until it ends. When it
ends, bear right on to First Division Road. At the golf course, stay left on
Dixie Road (do not turn right and follow First Division
Road). Follow Dixie Road until you see the airfield. Turn
right on Jecelin Road and follow it to a left turn on
Indianhead Road. Once on Indianhead Road, look for
parking. Freedom Hall is the Passenger Terminal.
Several Detachments may wish to arrive early in the day and tour the
new National Infantry Museum on Ft. Benning. It opens
at 0900 and a three-hour tour is well worth the time.
Make the day a Detachment Event. It is a great way to get to know
members better and to create a better bond between members.
Semper Fidelis,
Michael Clark
